Prisoner: #466/64

Yesterday, we read about Nelson Mandela's experiences in prison after he was sentenced to life plus 5 in the year 1964. Today, we will answer a few questions based on this reading:
What was life like in prison for Mandela (3 pieces of evidence).
Why was Mandela such a fighter? (2 pieces of evidence).
Finally, Mandela said to Winnie in a letter, "Sometimes I feel like who is on the sidelines, who has missed life itself" Do you think Mandela missed life or do you think Mandela is living life. Explain your thinking.

kofi anna- life for nelson mandala in prison was very bad and a true horror in the prison the were not allowed to write and they were forced to do hard labor by picking limestones and were served disusting prorage with no flavor at all.
question 2 kofianna -mandla was such a fighter because he was fully determaned to achive greatness and stop aprathied once and for all.he did this by working protest and going aganist the laws to fight for what is right.
question three kofianne- i thing that what nelson mandala is saying in this statment to his wife is that he does sometimes feel loney and thinks that he does not have a life in the cold hard jail were all the prisonars are treated wrongly because of there doings in the outside world were they were free

wats up this is fredrick douglas

life in prison for mandela was easy for him. he took everthing calmly thats what one of the prisonetrs said. he did daily exercise every morning.he also studied law thriugh mail. he educated himself on (AFRIKANERHISTORY & LANGUGE.)

mandela was a fighter because they only gave him rice and water. that is not enogh for a man.he also made protest for hunger strikes.

i think mandela is living life because life is full of desion and he took a bad one. also he is also not beeing harased he also lives in a cell by his self. even though its sad for Winnie he could have made a diffrent choice.

msjacobexplore said...

ponyboy curtis the reason life was ruff because they had to lift limestone quarry for weeks and day.
also because they will go in they room looking like ghoses. The room was only '7*'7 with only a 40 watts bulb.

one of the reason he was a fighter is because he made protestes for hunger strikes.

another reason he was a fighter is because he won respect from the prisonal officals.also helped solve promblems too.

Nelson M. in prison ,his cell was measured up to 7*7and it was lit by a signalfourty-watt bulb, there was a mat to sleep on also two blankets. He had to work in limestones- 't'

This is justice.

Life for nelson mandela in prison was hard on him because he didn't understand why he was put in jail for standing up for his and others rights. 1 thing that they did to nelson mandela was put him in a new isolation section which were separated from other cells. # 2, mandela had to work in this type of construstion place where the inmates had to dig up limestones and when the inmates were finished, they would come out looking like ghost because they were covered in the white stuff from the limestones. # 3, mandela got really sick from prison.

question 2.
mandela was such a figther because when he got sick, even though he was weak he kept on struggling with fighting for his rights.

question 3.
i think that mandela is living life because without god through him and the others who followed in his path made the world what it is now.

My name is nelson mandela I was a fighter because I alway fighted for what I wanted I motly got it. In jail I got some people to fight against apartied, and almost got what I wanted. I also wrote a book about the experience and the way that apartied afected south africa

Truth:Life was horrible in prison. He had to sleep in a small room with on light bulb to shine the room.Mandela washed and shaved in cold water. He had to work in the limestone quarry. In the winter the wind wpiped tham because of the hard winds. When they were finshed limestone dust was all over them. The were not ble to read the newspaper an Mandela only saw his wife two times a month. They couldn't talk about things that would give Mandela hope that apartied was wrong. They had to eat tasteless porridge angd when sick they ate rice and water. He lost fifty ponuds because the conditoin were not right.
2. Mandela was a fighter becaus he always iencouged people. Even if he wazs in jail he talked adout freedom for Souyth Africa and how thy were not meant to be in jail for fighting for their country. He risked being sent to jail because he talked about the news adout the outsibe world. He taught prisoner about how even in jail you can stand up for your your country. At the end people lacked in everything that they do. Them things started to improve in jail. They got hot water for washing, a volleyballcourt, a Tennis court and a movie every month.

Marcus Garvey,
Well life in jail for Nelson Mandela cannot be expressed in words, but in someone elses words.Someone else like me Marcus Garvey.TO me Nelson Mandela had suffered something far beyond some things that other black woman or men has ever gone through.Nelson Mandela was put in solitary confinement, but Solitary cells are not any ordinary cells, there wet and cold.On top of that Nelson was only given rice and water to drink.Later on in the life of a black man Nelson's eyesight deterioated and he developed a bad back from work in the quarries.Nelson Mandela had terrible blood pressure, which caused him to go on a saltfree diet, not coke, but salt. Also,if u thought it wasnt possible Nelson Mandela lost a wapping 50lbs and turned a sickly yellow color, kind of like ''Curious George''.Later rumors spreaded like wild fire that Mandela had and was suffering from cancer!!!But it doesnt end here, because of Mandela's of Mandela's way to conduct himself in a forceful yet dignified manner gradually won him the respect of the prison officials. I think that Mandela is a hard fighter because like I said, because of Mandela's way to conduct himself in a forceful yet dignified manner gradually won him the respect of the prison officials. Also, according to the book Mandela would not give up he kept his moral and continued to be self-,and determined, disciplined and confident, for his country. I think that Mandela inside feels like he has lost life or watched it go by,but really he is living the life, with every step that he takes. He will come out VICTORIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wat up home skill it biscit head this is ruby bridges and im gonna tell you something about jails back then they had to eat tasteless porridge.and their cell was no that big at all.
he was a fighter because

msjacobexplore said...

Mandelas life in prison was horrible. It was horrible because Nelson mandela had little to eat.All Nelson Mandela had to eat was rice and some waterand this was unhealthy. In addition he had to carry limestones in cold conditions. these limestones werent light they they were heavy.Probably more weight than a normal 6 year old. My last point is that after a while mandela gotten sick and it was rumored that he was suffering from cancer.Nelson Mandela couldnt lift limestones so he got punished sent into solitary confiment for 6 days. But mandela was self diciplined and determined to continue in working hard.

Mandela was such a fighter because first he got tourtured while carrying limestones and eating tasteless porridge. But he took an extra mile and continued working until he got his freedom.Secondly Mandela got sick and couldnt carry limestones with losing 50 pounds so mandela went to solitary confiment. But the shrength with inside him he stood his ground and worked.

Nelson Mandela means that people who do not fight for freedom is losing theyre life an icredulous amount of life.if they dont fight for freedom the white person will win and turn them into slaves.just like Malcom X said we cannot win freedom until we are doing something for ourselves.

Hi it's me Freedomwriter. Life in the prisons for Mandela was crazy. When Mandela was in prison he lived in a cell that was 7'x7' and was lighted up by a 40 watt bulb. He slept on the floor with two blankets. When he awoke at sunrise he bathed and shaved in cold water, and emptied his sanitary pail. The porridge that he ate was taste less. When he was sick he was sent to a different cell for his punishment for not lifting the limestone. The cell he went to was wet and cold. Mandela only had rice and water to eat. Mandela's blood pressure got high and he went on a salt free diet, and he lost 50 pounds, and turn a yellow sickly color.
Mandela was such a fighter becuase he never gave up. Even though he got sick he probaly tryed to get better. He kept his morale, continued to be self-disciplined, determined, and confident. The jail time he served did not change his goal to free his South Afican people. Mandela still kept fighting for freedom. It was a particulary difficult for him to make this decision.
I think that Mandela meant was that people are strated to give up on fighting apartheid and it seems like he the only one fighting for his freedom to live. people are letting bad mean things are happen to them and it seems like they love it and don't miss the real life that they are supposed to have.

Hi this Love. Life in prison for Nelson Mandela was horrible. He would have a cell that was 7x7. Even worse his cell was lit with 40 watt bulb. He was only allowed to have two blankets to sleep with at night. He also was served horrible porridge for every meal. It did'nt have any flavor at all.

Question 2 - Nelson Mandela was such a fighter because he fought through sickness in jail. Another reason why he's such a fighter is because he went through so much things to get Apartheid to end.

Question 3- Yes i thinks Nelson Mandela missed his life. He was'nt at all in contact with the normal world as a person. I think they treated him like an animal. It's really messed up how they took half of his life because he was standing up for what he belived in. The South African community as a whole probley thought he was'nt ever going to get out of jail.

He had to use a box. Also Nelson could not mail letters to his family .Nelson could not know what was going on ouyside of jail. Also in jail people had to do hard work. The work that they was given you could die from.
Mendela was such a fighter becausr he wanted the blacks to be equal jaust as the whites.Mandela made signs and had a boycott.Nelson Was a hard fighter because he wanted the rights and not live poor.

I think Nelson live his life.Nelson live his life because he tryed to live othr people life and make them free.

Question1: Life in prison for Nelson Mandela was really bad. One reason is because he had to use the bathroom in a bucket adn then had to keep it under his bed. A second reason was because he had to stay in a room that was 7'' by 7'' and was lit by only one forthy watt bulb. The last reason was because he washed and shaved in cold water, and for breakfeast of tasteless porridge.

Question2: Nelson Mandlea was such a good fighter because he would not stop until he got what he wanted. Also because he wantedto see his family and he should have rights to see his family.

Question3: Mandela is not living life because if you are living life you are suppose to be with your family and the people that you love the most!!!!!!!

Hello Dred Scott here so listen up.Life for Nelson Mandela in prison was so cruel. He was totaly tortured. All he had was 1 forty-watt light bulb in a 7'x7' cell. Also, he had to put his waste in a sanitary pail.In addition, he had to lift limestones even when he was sick.He nearly died.

Nelson Mandela is a strong man. He could'eve died in prison but still struggled.Since he was ill, he was put into solitary confinement and still survived.

msjacobexplore said...

Life in prison was terrible for nelson. It was a 7*7 size room, with a 40 watt bulb for light in the room. In addition when nelson got visits from his family it was only 30 min which is barely any time at all. Nelson was a true fighter, not physical but mind and soul. He is a strong man,to be brave enough to protest on how apartied is getting worst. Plus about how blacks arent being trat the same way.

msjacobexplore said...

Hi, My name is Langston Hughes.

Question One:Today, a long time ago Nelson Mandela was in jail when he tried to sabotage the government and try to train Africans to fight against apartheid. Nelson Mandela was a strong and fearless fighter against apartheid. When he went to jail, one sad fact was that when he went to jail no white man or women was spotted at his jail. His cell was very small. The size if his cell was "7x7" and only had a 40-watt bulb. Also a small mat to lay on with only two blankets. He had to wash and shave with cold water. He only ate tasteless porridge and he forced to work in the Limestone quarrys. He worked for many painfully hours. Prisoners were not allowed to talk, read newspapers, and hear any news outside the prison.

Question Two: Nelson Mandela was a strong and smart fighter against apartheid. One reason why he was a strong fighter because he always had hope that their was hope and freedom for all African people and white people,he also believed that all people should have equal rights. Another reason why he was a strong fighter is because he used his words and action. He didn't use hate or violence he took whatever fate he had in store for himself.

Truth- I think that Nelson Mandela meant that al thwe thinks that he has done is not really helping. He means that almost all his life he has been working on helping to stop Apartied and he hasn't been doing much for himself. I think that Mandela is missing life because he had to go to jail for his country but he hasn't been with his family doing what familes do In addition I haven't read in the book where he has talked about his kids graduation or playing with them as a father would do. He is also old and doesn't get to be free or anybody beCAUSE of APARTEID DIDN'T GET South AFRICANS to do any thing while they watch white people get to have all the fun
